Daytona University, located in Daytona Beach, Florida, is a private institution known for its specialized programs in aviation and aerospace studies. The Challenge
In 2015, Lyncros, in collaboration with Grey Logic, developed an e-learning solution to enhance the interactivity and engagement of engineering students at Daytona Beach University. In 2021, following the pandemic, many students chose remote learning from their homes, prompting the university to assess new methods to ensure academic integrity and monitor student progress in online assessments. Traditional proctoring solutions were found to be ineffective and costly, highlighting the need for innovative approaches that could maintain the rigor and security of assessments while accommodating the flexibility and accessibility required by remote students. Addressing these challenges became crucial to maintain educational quality and academic standards in an increasingly digital learning environment.
Our Approach
To address the challenge of providing remote access to courses and exams, Lyncros, in collaboration with Grey Logic, developed a facial and voice biometric recognition platform called My Course ID. This solution was designed to meet the growing need for secure and efficient remote learning environments. Initially integrated into the university's existing courses, My Course ID has since been seamlessly integrated with the LMS platforms Moodle and Canvas, adhering to strict security standards to protect student and instructor data while facilitating simple course and exam management. My Course ID empowers instructors with straightforward controls, enhancing oversight during remote assessments and ensuring authentication and identity verification through facial and voice recognition technologies. As Daytona Beach University navigates the complexities of remote learning, My Course ID remains pivotal in maintaining academic integrity and supporting a seamless educational experience for both students and faculty.
Results
Our cost-effective solution competes with and replaces traditional proctoring systems, providing a simple and quick way to monitor students. My Course ID has significantly reduced costs, making it more accessible. Its integration with LMS platforms like Moodle and Canvas has streamlined the process for both instructors and students.
